The purpose of IWT is to operate as a strategic intellectual think tank that generates ideas, research, and analysis to influence policy and public opinion on a variety of issues:
Research: IWT conducts research and produce reports, monographs, and policy briefs on a range of topics.
Analysis: IWT provides analysis and solutions to complex issues.
Policy recommendations: IWT formulates evidence-based policy recommendations from reliable data.
Public debate: IWT provoke public debate on critical issues.
Education: IWT educates the public on issue impacting the Black community.
Think tanks can be found nationally and internationally, and can be funded through private donations, grants, or public funds. They can work for governmental or commercial clients, and their projects can include planning social policy, national defense, developing new technologies, or testing new products.
